Abstract: In Uganda, Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) in 2009 directed and reinstated teaching of physical education (PE) in secondary schools. This is because PE has been attributed to many positive effects on learners which include: improving academic performance and preventing diseases. This study therefore assessed the implementation status of PE among Ugandan secondary schools. The study involved randomly selected 40 schools in Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) from January 2018 to May 2021 using both quantitative and qualitative methods and using case study design. The study specifically assessed the statutory requirements of PE in schools, stakeholders’ attitude towards teaching PE and challenges being faced while implementing PE in schools. The findings of the study revealed that only 5.0%, 17.5% and 47.5% schools were teaching PE by end of 2018, June 2019 and May 2021 respectively while only 5.0%, 15.0% and 60.0% had PE allocated on their teaching timetable in 2018, 2019 and 2021 respectively. The study also showed that only 43.0% of the schools had qualified teachers of PE. In a similar manner, the study also revealed that 60.0%, 80.0% and 97.3% of Directors of studies, head teachers and learners respectively had positive attitude regarding teaching PE in schools. Among others, the study revealed the following challenges regarding the implementation of PE: lack of facilities, lack of support from the government, lack of instructional materials and lack of PE reference books. Therefore, implementation of PE was still below average as per the study. The study recommended training and recruiting of PE teachers, government’s increase of PE budget as well as making PE compulsory at O’ level.

Abstract: Traditionally pole dance has been associated with darkness in pubs, illegal practices of sexual exchanges or other non sportive activities. However, that point of view has tremendously changed the past few years, when pole dance has started to be considered as an aerial sport, such as a lush dancing expression of the body. It has started to be practiced by all kind of persons and with different complexions, giving pleasant execution surprises in some cases. It takes a considerable amount of cardiovascular exercise and breathing control. In a constant schedule it can improve flexibility and strength of disciplined dancers. It also contributes to the self-esteem and self-confidence. Many different practices are taught in Pole dance studies, such as exotic, spinning, advanced, intermediary or basic levels and nice choreographies for a flowing and professional performances. Some risks of injuries might happen and some ways to prevent them are discussed in this brief review. Many new medical papers have been recently published about this topic during these last few years because its interest has considerably increased all around the world. However this information is given without liability for possible disadvantages or damaging during practices. Each dancer is responsible for avoiding his/her own risks. With this brief approach we would aim to change the perspective of this sport to be considered as a salubrious way to increase health as well as to change ideas of negative and non sportive considerations toward it.

Abstract: With the development of information-based education, a constant stream of knowledge is growing exponentially on various platforms, and the online and offline mixed education mode can provide a multi-faceted knowledge output platform to meet the development needs of the times. In order to make up for the shortcomings of traditional education, higher education institutions can now use modern network platforms to explore a mixed teaching system that organically combines online education and traditional teaching, and build a teaching model suitable for this specialized course. In this paper, we focus on the teaching characteristics of exercise physiology, address the dilemmas and problems of traditional classroom teaching in exercise physiology, and actively explore the hybrid teaching mode based on the flipped classroom and the construction of online and offline hybrid first-class courses with high-quality online teaching resources, through promoting group discussion-based teaching and strengthening the assessment of learning process. The application of online and offline mixed teaching is explained in terms of the selection of the teaching platform before class, the design of the teaching mode during class, and the quality assessment after class, so as to consider the suitable high-quality teaching methods to build "useful, interesting and effective" online and offline mixed exercise physiology course.

Abstract: This article examines the place of Norbert Elias' work in the French sociology of sport. It is a question of a place qualified as strange because of an insufficiently democratized use whereas the contribution of Norbert Elias accumulates the assets (taking into account of the long time of the social facts, inscription in a broad process of civilization of the conducts, integrations of identified variations and clearly expressed conditions, theorization of the concept of controlled releases of the emotions facilitating the comprehension of the violences in the sport). After having specified in what way Norbert Elias is undoubtedly under-exploited in the scientific literature, a synthesis of his contribution is proposed. We then objectively determine the scientific influence of Norbert Elias' research by analyzing its relegation over the last 20 years. For this purpose, several national conference programs were observed, several selected publications and important university textbooks were discussed. A scientometric research was also used in order to compare the place of Norbert Elias' research in the French sociology of sport. If the results of this approach show that Norbert Elias is used by researchers, they confirm a limited use and especially very inferior to the use of Pierre Bourdieu's concepts (although not specialized to sports facts). Finally, the article presents explanations for a problematic under-use, which is possibly being improved.

Abstract: Load structure of the pre-competition altitude training on triathletes for seventh world military games. Through monitoring the systematic performance indicators of the pre-Seventh World Military Games, and tracking trainers for implementation of training programs in the altitude training, basing on the results of functional monitoring and competition, the composition and application of the load structure of pre-competition altitude training in triathlon were analyzed and evaluated comprehensively to make empirical study on the pre-competition altitude training. The results are as follows: 1. The training load pattern of the pre-race was the second maximum load, the maximum load, the medium load and pre-match adjustment. Aerobic training was accounted for 65% of total training, mixed oxygen training is accounted for 28%, anaerobic training was accounted for 7%. 2. The hematocrit (HCT) of male athletes decreased in the last week before the race, P > 0.05, urea nitrogen (BUN) was higher than the normal range from the third to the twice week before the race, P < 0.05, creatine kinase (CK) increased in the last week before the race and the competitive state decreased, P > 0.05. The hematocrit (HCT) of female athletes increased in the last week before the race, P < 0.05. Testosterone (T) increased significantly from the third to the twice week before the race, P < 0.05, and competitive status increased. 3. The pre-competition load structure arrangement was basically reasonable, achieving the best competitive state by doing precise training control was the key to acquire the best competitive performance.

Abstract: This study investigated the effect of Body Mass Index (BMI), aggression and gender on the performance/coaching of volleyball players in Benue State. The sample for the study was thirty volleyball players of Benue State Sports council who were purposely selected for the study. The ex-post facto research design was used to conduct the study. Participants’ stature and body mass were measured in accordance with the protocol of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry [ISAK]. The Body Mass Index (BMI) of the participants was derived as a ratio of his/her weight (in kilograms) to height (in meters) squared (kg/m2). The aggressiveness of the players was assessed using the Buss Perry Questionnaire. The performance of the volleyball players was assessed during volleyball matches by the average score of three experts’ rating on all the five components (serves, volleys, diggings, spiking and blockings). Mean, standard deviation and percentage distributions were used to describe the characteristics of the subjects. The two-way Analysis of Variance was used to test the interaction effect between BMI and aggressiveness on volleyball skills. The independent sample t-test was used to find out gender differences in BMI, and aggression of volleyball players. All statistical analyses were performed on a compatible micro-computer using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS v21) at a probability of 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study indicated that, there was no significant effect of BMI on playing skills of volleyball players in Benue State (p>0.05); there was no significant effect of aggression on playing skills of volleyball players in Benue State (p>0.05); and there was no gender difference in BMI, aggression and performance of volleyball players in Benue State (p>0.05). It was therefore recommended that volleyball coaches should consider the BMI and aggressive levels in selecting their players for optimum performance.
