Greening the Financial Landscape: Driving Inclusive Sustainable Development

Submission deadline: Jan. 30, 2024
Status: Open for Submission
The Special Issue titled "Greening the Financial Landscape: Driving Inclusive Sustainable Development" aims to explore the intersection of green finance and financial inclusion, with a particular focus on their role in promoting sustainable development. The issue will delve into the challenges, opportunities, and innovative approaches in driving inclusive and environmentally responsible financial practices.
As the global community continues to grapple with the urgent need for sustainable development, the role of finance cannot be overstated. Green finance, which involves directing financial flows towards environmentally friendly and sustainable projects, has emerged as a critical tool in combating climate change, preserving natural resources, and fostering sustainable economic growth. Financial inclusion, on the other hand, emphasizes providing access to financial services and products for traditionally underserved and marginalized populations.
This Special Issue seeks to explore how these two concepts intersect and reinforce each other. By promoting financial inclusion, we can ensure that vulnerable populations, including low-income individuals, women, and rural communities, have equal access to green finance initiatives. Simultaneously, integrating green finance into financial inclusion efforts can help accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and inclusive economy.

The specific aims of this Special Issue are to:

  1. 1. Examine the current state of green finance and financial inclusion, highlighting the progress made and the existing gaps and challenges.
  2. 2. Investigate the impact of green financial inclusion on sustainable development goals, including poverty eradication, climate action, and environmental conservation.
  3. 3. Explore innovative approaches, policies, and best practices in driving financial inclusion within green finance initiatives.
  4. 4. Identify and analyze case studies of successful green financial inclusion programs from different regions and sectors.
  5. 5. Discuss the role of technology, digitalization, and fintech in advancing green financial inclusion.
  6. 6. Evaluate the regulatory frameworks and policy interventions necessary to foster an enabling environment for green finance and financial inclusion.
  7. 7. Encourage interdisciplinary perspectives by welcoming contributions from scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and industry experts in finance, economics, sustainability, social sciences, and related fields.
By bringing together diverse perspectives, research findings, and practical insights, this Special Issue aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on green finance and financial inclusion. It seeks to provide a platform for meaningful discussions and the dissemination of innovative ideas and strategies to drive inclusive and sustainable development. Ultimately, the goal is to inspire and inform policymakers, financial institutions, and stakeholders in their efforts to reshape the financial landscape towards a more environmentally conscious and socially inclusive future.
