Sustainable Development and Circular Economy

In the modern world, businesses have relied on a production scheme where resources are managed, their distribution and the limits of availability are controlled to achieve adequate profitability. However, it is important to recognize that resources and the biodiversity of the world are being consumed, depleted, and increasingly scarce. Therefore, it is necessary to replace the development model to meet the needs of current human beings and to increasingly consider the environmental and social aspects of businesses, as well as the needs of future generations. In this way, sustainable development, and sustainability, although they have been mentioned in business for years, have not been adequately implemented in business strategies.
On the other hand, the current economic model is based on producing more and better things to be consumed as prices decrease (due to supply, for example) or as people's incomes rise (due to improvements in per capita income). However, this production method relies on having large amounts of cheap and easily accessible energy and other resources (a linear economy: "take, make, dispose"), but it is already reaching the limit of its physical capacity. The circular economy is an attractive and viable alternative that various companies have already begun to explore. It distinguishes between technical and biological cycles and seeks to ensure that products, components, and resources, in general, always maintain their usefulness and value.
The Special Issue based in circular economy, will be a space to share information about this new concept that develops sustainability and solutions for the climate, and gives competitiveness to companies and allows them to develop their value proposition in a better way towards a society. The company experiences, the researches and the projects around the contribution of the conservation of natural resources, the working as solution for the climate crisis and the innovations as driving force for the development of productive are the target of this publication.
