Abstract

The family is important in the education process, as its presence helps to clarify, modify and study the process of social and cultural adaptation. However, it appears that the school community, in general, aims to take into account the students' learning process for their full educational and social development. This research had the general objective of understanding family participation in the child's Teaching and Learning Process in the school context. Therefore, this study had a qualitative and exploratory method, involving a non-probabilistic sample of 15 participants. Where 5 are teachers and 10 guardians, who responded to the semi-structured interview. The treatment and analysis of the results corresponded to the following categories: pre-analysis which was based on the reflection of data collected in the field, Exploration of the material which focused on the exploration of articles, monographs, dissertations and theses for the theoretical support of the study and Analysis of the results where it was based on the treatments of data collected in the study. The research results highlighted the challenges that families face in educating children in the school context, such as: the non-participation of some families in periodic school meetings; weak effort in educating children generates unsatisfactory results, and Lack of interest on the part of the family in monitoring their children's education. These factors condition the school's poor engagement with society, contributing to students' academic failure. Therefore, this study is expected to highlight the importance of the relationship between family and school to develop children's learning.
