The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everything everywhere in the world. Some countries are still in a state of lockdown. The impact and implications for higher education teaching, learning, and research cannot be overemphasized. Given this situation, higher education institutions have devised several innovative strategies as a response to mitigate the debilitating effects of the crisis on academic work. It is clear from all indications that higher education institutions especially Universities are experiencing a transformation that requires rapid adaptation and transition strategy to manage the change process. The response to the change is being experienced and managed differently and the role of university leadership in the transition has been diverse and several.

The Special issue is currently inviting papers aimed at documenting the experiences of various higher education institutions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic on the topic,” COVID-19 and transformations in higher education teaching, learning and research”. This special issue aims to help both practitioners/administrators and researchers to contribute substantial knowledge to our appreciation of the current situation by highlighting how COVID-19 has become a “tool” in transforming higher education teaching, learning, research, administration, and governance, especially in developing countries of the south. It also seeks to encourage researchers to highlight specific lessons that have been learned from these experiences and their values for transforming the global higher education landscape.
